Owen Anderson

Biography

I manage the Deepsea Ecology and Fisheries Group based in Wellington, and specialise in the biology of deep-sea ecosystems, with expertise in spatial modelling of species distributions and species assemblages, especially benthic invertebrate species. I study the impacts of fishing and climate change on the distribution and abundance of protected species such as cold-water corals and other constituents of deep-sea vulnerable marine ecosystems. I also study echinoderm taxonomy and classification, with a particular focus on echinoids, and to a lesser extent crinoids. Other areas of expertise include: marine biosecurity surveys; research diving and small research vessel operating; statistical modelling and assessment of commercial fisheries bycatch and discarding.
