A new wetlands construction guide has been produced by NIWA's freshwater team.
The New Zealand Guidelines for Constructed Wetland Treatment of Tile Drainage are now available on the web and are downloadable as a PDF.
In addition, hard copies have been produced and distributed to key dairying, university, government and regional council staff and libraries.
They provide guidance on all aspects of building a wetland, including appropriate location, size, design and wetland planting, weed control and maintenance.
The guidelines were developed using international experience as well as monitoring and modelling results from field-scale trials on farms in Waikato, Northland and Southland over 3-5 year periods. They provide a valuable resource for anyone considering wetland construction.
