The climate of Taranaki is determined largely by its position in relation to the large scale weather patterns affecting New Zealand. Situated on the western side of the North Island, Taranaki is exposed to all weather systems migrating over the Tasman Sea.
The predominant westerly airstream makes the Taranaki region one of the windiest in New Zealand. Taranaki is therefore generally a sunny, windy region with a good supply of evenly distributed rainfall and moderate temperatures.
