The driest soils across the North Island compared to normal for this time of the year are found in Whangarei and Kaipara districts, along with Taupo and Tararua. No hotspots are currently in place in the South Island.

The aim of the voyage was to enhance our capability to acoustically detect and characterise liquid and gaseous targets in the water column.

The NZWaM – Hydro project is led by NIWA but all work is conducted in collaboration with our project partners.

NZWaM-Hydro is scalable, and the hydrological relationships in the model are transferable between locations.

Bringing together leading scientific organisations and regional councils, this project aims to develop a sophisticated computer modelling framework that will enable users to accurately predict how much freshwater is available, where it has come from, and how quickly it moves through New Zealand catchments.

The largest hotspot in the North Island continues to be found in Napier and southern Hastings District. A new, very small hotspot has also emerged this week near Cape Reinga. No hotspots are currently in place in the South Island.
