- Development of a Vehicle Ventilation Model is in an experimental phase. It is intended to help predict exposure of vehicle occupants to vehicle exhaust exposure.
- This model has been developed from scratch, based on observational data captured by NIWA in busy Auckland traffic.
- The model successfully predicts concentrations of CO and particles within cars on a second-by-second basis, based on a profile of external concentrations.
- Results were presented at the Clean Air Conference in Auckland in 2011.
- A brief description of the model and its development are presented in NZ Transport Agency research report 451.
- Development work is ongoing through NIWA funding.
